Console Care Guide

Your Playnix console features a case made from PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol), a durable and impact-resistant 3D printing material. Proper care will ensure your console lasts for years to come.

Understanding PETG Material

PETG is a tough, chemically resistant thermoplastic that combines durability with good heat tolerance. While more robust than other 3D printing plastics, it still requires specific care to maintain its integrity:

Material Properties

  • Heat Resistant (with limits): PETG begins to soften around 80°C (176°F)
  • UV Tolerant: More UV resistant than PLA, but prolonged sun exposure can still cause discoloration over time
  • Moisture Sensitive: Can absorb moisture if stored in humid environments
  • Recyclable: PETG is recyclable (resin code #1, similar to PET bottles)

Thermal Protection & PlaynixOS

Under normal use, the console runs at around 65°C on CPU/GPU, PlaynixOS includes built-in thermal countermeasures that automatically shut down the console if the CPU and/or GPU exceed 85°C, protecting both the internal components and the PETG case from heat damage.

Installing alternative operating systems without these thermal safeguards may allow the hardware to exceed safe temperatures and could permanently damage the console

Care Instructions

Placement & Environment

Critical: Avoid Heat

Never place your console:

  • Near heat sources (radiators, heaters, fireplaces)
  • In direct sunlight or near windows with sun exposure
  • On top of other heat-generating devices
  • Inside enclosed spaces without ventilation

Sustained heat can warp or deform the PETG case permanently.

DO place your console:

  • In a well-ventilated area with room temperature (15-25°C / 59-77°F)
  • Away from direct sunlight
  • On a stable, level surface
  • With at least 10cm (4 inches) clearance on all sides

Cleaning Your Console

Follow these steps to keep your console clean:

  1. Power Off the console completely and unplug the power cable
  2. Wait for the console to cool down (at least 30 minutes after use)
  3. Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to wipe the exterior
  4. For stubborn dirt: Slightly dampen the cloth with water only
  5. Dry immediately with a dry cloth

Cleaning Don'ts

Never use:

- Acetone or strong solvents
- Abrasive materials or scrubbing pads
- Steam cleaners
- Excessive water

These can damage the PETG material permanently. Isopropyl alcohol may be used sparingly on stubborn marks, but always test on a small area first.

Ventilation & Airflow

The console generates heat during operation. Proper airflow is essential:

  • Keep all ventilation grilles clear of dust and obstructions
  • Use compressed air (from a safe distance) to remove dust from vents monthly
  • Never cover the console with cloth, paper, or other materials
  • Don't place items on top of the console

Handling & Transportation

When moving your console:

  • Always power off and disconnect all cables
  • Allow it to cool completely before handling
  • Hold the console firmly by its base, not by protruding parts
  • If transporting, use the original packaging when possible
  • Avoid dropping or hard impacts — although PETG is more impact resistant than PLA, it can still crack under heavy stress

Long-term Storage

If you need to store your console for an extended period:

  1. Clean the console thoroughly
  2. Disconnect all cables
  3. Store in the original box with protective padding
  4. Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight
  5. Store at room temperature (15-25°C / 59-77°F)
  6. Check every few months for any moisture or dust accumulation

Signs of Damage

Watch for these warning signs:

Sign Possible Cause Action
Warping or deformation Heat exposure Contact support; case may need replacement
Cracks Heavy impact Avoid further stress; contact support
Discoloration / yellowing Prolonged UV exposure Cosmetic only; continue normal use
Loose parts Normal wear Tighten if possible; contact support if severe

Warranty Considerations

Warranty Coverage

The Playnix warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover damage from:

- Improper care or handling
- Heat or UV exposure damage
- Physical damage from drops or impacts
- Use of improper cleaning materials
- Modifications or repairs not authorized by Playnix

Following these care instructions helps maintain your warranty coverage.

Environmental Responsibility

When it's time to retire your Playnix console:

  • PETG is fully recyclable (resin code #1) at facilities that accept PET/PETG plastics
  • Check with local recycling centers for proper disposal
  • Do not dispose of in regular trash if recycling options are available
  • Electronic components should be recycled separately according to local e-waste regulations

Remember: Proper care of your Playnix console ensures optimal performance and longevity. When in doubt, keep it cool, dry, and clean!
